Claustrophobia, thanatosphobia, agorophobia, arachnophobia etc. Do you know of many people with a phobia? I have met quite a few and given therapy successfully to them to. However I have to assure you all that not all of your fears can be considered phobic. A phobia is an irrational, intense, persistent fear of certain situations, activities, things, or people and it is beyond the control of the person. Many people mistake their fears for phobias.

Is there a need for fear? Fear is a natural defense mechanism in all of us that helps in our survival by preventing pain or the threat of danger . For example the fear of a tiger will prevent us from walking towards the tiger and risk getting mawed. Fear is a natural part of us and having fears is a very normal thing. We all have our qwerks; I used to fear really tight places due to my size( tight places were bearable but not comfortable) and eating bananas because I found worms in a banana I was eating when I was 6. However, even with the fears that I had, with a bit more caution, I could enter tight places and small rooms and I could ensure my bananas were always clean of worms. A fear is just a warning system.

How does it become a phobia then? Well to put it in another way, our fear is like a little tiger cub inside our minds. Have you seen a tiger cub? It’s absolutely adorable. Its claws can still scratch you if you are not careful, but other than that it is absolutely cute and cuddly. Each time we get the emotion of fear from a thought or an impending event and we react to that emotion by giving in to it, it is the same as throwing a slice of meat to the little tiger cub and feeding it. When I mean giving into your fear it would be like how a person who is afraid of lizards enters a room with a lizard on the wall. That person’s mind would think: The lizard is going to get me. His choice of actions would be: 1) Ignore the thought, 2) Get out of the room quick! . Well choice number 2) would be giving into the fear. Fear grows on fear. Each time we feed our little tiger cub, it grows. And on one fine day the tiger cub will grow into a fierce tiger inside us. From this time on, each time we see the triggers for our fear, it’s like getting clawed by the huge tiger in our mind; We just breakdown.

How then do we deal with it? There are many ways to do it but in my opinion, the most permanent way is to starve the tiger. Stop feeding it. Let is starve and shrink back into the cute cuddly size that it once was. We all learn through positive experience. I know that a lizard will not harm me if I watch my tv. What can it do? Bite a chip off my fingernail? Nonsense. Accept the fact that our fear is irrational and gently ignore it. By starving our fears, they will gradually shrink. Each time you do not give into your fear and realize that nothing bad happens when you do, you are helping to rid yourself of the fear. Just take a deep breath, close your eyes and think happy thoughts!

Break your Archetypes

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 225px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_X1XV7h8yyn4/SkGWxjLbIJI/AAAAAAAAAEw/YMlovJg-U4k/s320/Sleep.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350723610293772434" />
Of late, I have been meeting clients who constantly claim they cannot enter hypnosis even though they have already by my guidance entered a moderate level of hypnosis. So upon emerging them, I asked them what is stopping them from relaxing further.

"I can hear you perfectly well! Shouldn't I not be able to hear you? Shouldn't I be sleeping?"

Well it seems that even though it has explained time after time during consultation and before the session, I would like to take this chance to explain yet again. In hypnosis, we are not sleeping. We are not in a zonked out mood. We are not out cold like an iron bar to the head. In fact, contrary to belief, we are in fact more able to hear our therapist; our sense of sound and smell is much stronger. We feel very relaxed; some people feel heavy while others feel floaty, other than that, they are always listening to the therapist and very aware of what is happening.

Then when they go under hypnosis, I realized the one thing that is stopping them from entering a deeper state: Am I hypnotized? That is the question that most clients ask when they are hypnotized by us therapist. The answer is simple, yes you are if you only let yourself so. By doubting yourself and questioning yourself, you are not allowing yourself to enjoy the full benefits of entering a deep state of hypnosis. The trick in letting yourself go is just to focus on the voice of the therapist, let yourself experience the bodily sensations that will follow and just go with the flow, don't fight it.

SO the next time when you all come for therapy, bring in your stereotypes about hypnosis but be ready to let them be debunked. Do bring in an open mind too!

The importance of "MY" time

It’s been a while since I had time to blog, well, I just came back from a 17 day trip from Beijing to shanghai to hongkong and back home. One word fits what I feel as soon as I went to work today – invigorated. It was good to take a break.

Yes I know it’s hard to postpone your appointments, reschedule your meetings, shift everything in your daily routine to make time; it’s hard to make time for the most valuable asset you own: yourself.

But you see, that’s what’s causing alot of things to go awry. We need to take a break every so often. A man who goes without sleep for more than 48 hours gradually feels his bodily functions shut down on him and in no time he’ll start hallucinating; our body knows that we need to rest; do we? I’m no christian but I know that in the book of genesis, even god rested on the 7th day so why shouldn’t us mortals?

Ok I agree it’s almost impossible to take as long a trip as I did. But it is very possible to take the weekend off.

One of the most common problems that busy people face is burning out. Burn out causes you to slow down in productivity, turn wry your thinking process, become forgetful etc. the list goes on. In my opinion, the best cure for burnout is going some place far far away from the city, like a sunny little island that is not frequented by tourists, long stretches of soft silvery beige sand, cool blue waters that are so clean u can see the fishes swimming, a nice little bar to get a cool drink amd a shady spot to laze in and read. That’s my ideal getaway, it could be different from yours, that’s fine. So long as you feel relaxed and good about the place, that’s YOUR perfect spot.

If after reading this article makes you feel like going somewhere away from the bustling city, away from the constant sms, away from the invading email, then it could be time to call for a break.

Book a time with yourself, commit to it, have a cocktail and chill.

Smile!

Walking On

“It’s always necessary to know when a stage of one’s life has ended. If you stubbornly cling to it after the need has passed, you lose the joy and meaning of the rest. And you risk being shaken to your senses”. - Paulo Coehlo, The Fifth Mountain.

In our life we face many times when we enter a state of transition; the passing of a sweet relationship, the farewell of a loved one, the loss of a job. Surely we have had our fair share but I’m sorry but there’s more to come. Because life is as such, it’s about keeping up that gait of yours till the final passing.

We all hate goodbyes, dang I even hate birthdays cause each birthday and each good bye is bidding farewell to the stage of life that has just past. I look back and I think: has the time I spent been a total waste or has it? Were there any life lessons I could pick up to help better my walk? If I could have done better, how then can I do it?

This state of transition that we’re in is an opportune time to take some time off the ever flowing pace of life and just close your eyes and reflect. Think of your current pace of life, contemplate your next step, and if you’ve got a lot of time, do something you’ve never done before but always wanted to do. Go celebrate life for each passing of a stage is the entry into another.

Please make sure you have closure for the stage that has passed. Throw a party, go for a getaway, do something stupid, just do something that can signify you leaving the past because when you enter the next stage in life, you don’t want weights from the past still pulling you back. When baby eagles learn to fly, they just drop out of their nest, off the cliff and they drop at least 10 feet. What a way to signify the passing of their youth; They then open their wings and fly. Those that didn’t leave the nest never did survive.

I wish I could have relived many parts in my life again, then again when I thought about it, it could have progressed differently if i tried again and no amount of trying would have resulted in a more perfect memory than the one that has just past. Smile and keep walking. I have always liked this advert and it shall end this post.

Smile!

The Chains that Bind

Like invisible hands they clutch around your throat, slowly squeezing the life out of you until you're nothing but an empty shell. Ever felt like that?

Expectations; they come in many forms, obvious and transient. We all experience expectations every day, from our parents, friends, lover, the environment we grow up in and of course ourselves. They are there to guide us and inspire us to excel. But sometimes, having too much of it just constricts us with it's invisible tendrils. That's the feeling we get when we don't live up to expectations.

The problem is we have been educated since we were young that expectations are ok and they form part and parcel of our life. Yet our parents do not know that the feeling of disappointing them by not fulfilling their expectations is so painful, like a blunt knife slowly cutting into us. Where else can we go to express such pain without getting looked down on but hiding it within ourselves?

At this point, for some, depression slowly creeps in. Like water seeping through your clothes it slowly crawls up your skin. Let's spare our friends and family of this torture.

Parents, please don't place too high expectations on your children. I know we all want our kids to be the next einstein or bill gates. But sometimes giving them space and freedom to explore and find the path that they really enjoy venturing on is much more beneficial than to nag at them about being a doctor or a lawyer.

Break free of expectations that bind you. They are like heavy lead weights tied around your ankles. Let them go. Take a breather. Get away. Smile :)

When kinks appear

Sometimes in our work, just as we expect things to sail along just fine, little road bumps appear to dampen our morale. People telling you that you can't make it;you don't have what it takes;it was all pure luck etc.being human, such talk will withou a doubt waver our heart strings.

Most people gets so affected they stop altogether. Well,it's times like this that differentiates the people with calibre and those without. Ask yourself:"have all my hard work been really wasted?was it Really pure luck?or was it results from pure hard work and effort?

What ever your heart tells you, always look forward. Having not met people's expectations is a sign that you have much to work on. Having been misunderstood is a sign that people are paying attention to you and you are creating some effect on them. Stand firm and resolute with what you do. If trees were afraid of rain, they would never grow.

Resolute Resolutions

As the passing of 2008 approaches in the next few hours, please look back at your year and list down the number of meaningful events that has happened to you. Be it meeting someone special, attending a special occasion, having a special occasion or marking a new journey in life etc. list it all down. Then write down a list of things that you have learnt from these events and how you can improve on them. Having done that, prioritize the list into which things you want to improve the most and so on.

From there on, list down your goals and new year resolutions. Now please bear in mind that you have to write them down realistically. When I was 5, my new year resolution was to grow wings and fly. After so many new years, it has never been realized and I was some what disappointed by it. So please don't disappoint yourself! Make realistic resolutions! Then give yourself a time line as to when you can accomplish or see the resolution take effect.

Don't hesitate! The hour of 2009 is near!

Auld Lang Syne!

Tis the Festive Season to be JOLLY!

Yes!

This is THE festive Season to be jolly. Feeling down in the dumps? Feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders? Feeling un-loved? Throw all of that away! With a mighty HO HO HO, laugh away your troubles for this is the season to be jolly. It is the time of giving and forgiving.

Why are people exceptionally happy in this time of the year? It's because they receive presents and GIVE presents. Giving presents in fact brings more joy than receiving. Why? Because going through all that hard work and finding a present for that special someone, then seeing that smile creep in onto their face when their tear open the wrapping before finally erupting into a ear-to-ear smile is just.....satisfying. Immensely satisfying! Nothing feels better than making other people happy. We all like to give love, its in our genes, we are social animals.

So how can giving help bring you out from the dumps? Firstly, finding the present is tough and it will redirect attention and keep bad bad thoughts out of the head. Secondly, having the intention of making another person happy causes unseen changes in us; minute, invisible forces work in our bodies and soon we find that we start, bit by bit to get happier. Finally, we all like to have some shopping therapy once in a while don't we?

This is the time of the year dear readers, so go out there, immerse yourselves in Christmas carols, meet up with long lost friends, rekindle extinguished flames, spread the love.

Jingle Bells Jingle Bells Jingle All the way!

Music and Life!

From Ages past to the present day, Music has been part and parcel of every day life.

Every single culture on this planet has a musical chord in their blood. From the violins and pianos of Europe, the Angklongs of Indonesia, the Dijeritoos of Australia to the Berimbau of Africa. It is in us as it is in Nature. In the day, birds chirp, monkeys shrill, Hippotamuses give a strong bass, Lions with a roar; At night, crickets chirp, bats squeak, owls hoot, the air is alive with music!

Since birth, we have been accustomed to sounds , rhythms and music. Even in our mother's womb, we hear an orchestra of sounds; the dub-dub heartbeats, the slushes of blood pumping through the vessels, the digestive groans and grunts of the stomach, the squelches of the intestines. We have developed rhythm since we were young and have embraced it in almost every thing we do. When we walk, if you take note, every one walks to a certain rhythm. When we talk, we talk with a certain rhythm too! So even if you have not learned a musical instrument in an institute, be not discouraged, for your body has two instruments too! Your Voice and your hands. Clapping is used in many cultures as a bass rhythm. You see, music is just in the air.

Music has always been used in ceremonies and celebrations. It uplifts the mood or brings you to a solemn state. It holds that power to lift you up when you're down. Songs like Ave Maria lets people feel awe and get touched by the holiness. There are just so many songs out there with so many benefits.

How can this help you? Well, to simply put, when you're feeling down, try playing a song that you like. When you're feeling stressed, play some soothing songs in the background quietly. Soon with experimentation and patience, you will find your song.

Sports Excellence!

How many of you still exercise regularly every day? How many of us are watching that belly of ours slowly bulge an inch every week? I apologize but have to blunt here, lives are at stake; You will most likely fall ill sooner than your counter parts and then pass the remaining days of your life in torment.

Run! Swim! Play ball! Just do something! Our Ministry of Health has suggested 5 times a week and 30 mins each day. I know of someone who has polio yet swims regularly. Why not you with healthy legs? Don't wait till you can't see your toes...act on it!

Regular exercise has been shown to improve your sleep, reduce stress, give you better confidence, give you better skin, uplifts your prone-to-sag body parts and most of all, look good.

Don't know where to start? Visit your local park and just run or visit your community center to take part in activities or join some alternative sport such as Rock Climbing , Capoeira or even Martial Arts. Most importantly, find something you like and enjoy doing. After all, paying for your health is the BEST investment with the MOST returns.

Here are some links to some sports you can take part in:

http://www.zambiacongo.com.sg/ (A Local Brazilian Martial Art Group)
http://www.womenandsports.sg/ (A website meant for sports for women)

http://www.ssc.gov.sg/publish/Corporate/en/our_services0/courses/learn.html ( Listings of activities in Sports and Recreational Centers)
http://www.fightg.com/courseindex.htm ( A Local Martial Arts Gym )

That Subtle Drag

Yes, that very subtle and transient feeling of yourself slowing down, not yet to a halt, but just at a crawl. When you find you stop performing at top speed, stop giving results on time, and start taking your time.. you know you are suffering from that poison. That particular poison is called Procrastination.

We all have our Ups and Downs, just as our priorities in life. At different periods in our life, we will have different priorities. Our priorities are ever changing and when they do change, things with lower priority gets paid lesser attention and we fulfill them less quickly. However, when there is a misplacement of our priorities, such as things that are supposed to be of higher priority getting placed in lower priority regions, I'm sorry to say but you have picked up the bug of procrastination

I must admit, even I get victimized by it sometimes. Well here's a story to share:

Bob was called up one day. A deep voice sounded through the receiver, " May i speak to Bob please?" "Speaking, how may I help you?" replied Bob. "Congratulations young man, We would like to give you a place in our establishment. When may I expect you?" Said the man. "Wow...gosh...Ok, could you give me a month to settle my personal affairs first? I'll definitely be there in a month's time. How may I address you?" said Bob. " No worries at all Bob. You can call me Charlie or Mr Brucker. Well we'll see you in a month!"

A month passed but Bob hasnt turned up at the office yet. Charlie called again, " Hi Bob, I'm just calling to check on you. Will I be seeing you soon?" "Yes! Definitely, but in a week's time." said Bob. "Oh all right then, see you then Bob".

And so a week passed but still no sign of Bob in the office. Charlie called again, " Hi bob, I'm just checking on you, how's things?" "Much apologies Mr Brucker. I will be at the office tomorrow at 9 am."replied Bob.

And the next day, Bob did not appear at 9 am. Charlier called Bob again." Hi Bob.." "Oh yes! Mr Brucker! I was just about to call you and tell you that I would be there at 1pm."replied Bob. "Oh its all right Bob, save the trouble. We've decided to give your post to someone else. Good day."said Charlie and with that, the phone disengaged.

* End *

I hope this story strikes a chord or two in you readers. As Nike says: Just Do It!

Kung Fu Panda!

I watched Kung Fu Panda recently ( please... I know I am a little slow because it was released two months back, but at least i watched it.

How many times have we strived to achieve something, strive to learn something but stop short because we feel that we cannot attain mastery over the subject? Even though we slogged our life, with perspiration dotting our foreheads, knotted brows, clenched teeth? How many times have we felt like we have learned so much from our teacher, from books, from the guy on the TV and yet sense that there is something in us that is misplaced?

That my friends, as Po the Panda discovers is the element of belief in oneself. We need to believe in ourselves, just as Master Wu Gui did in Po. The Artist who believes in himself produces Art, the artist who does not is not even an Artist.

That my friends is the secret to go beyond Einstein, Van Gogh, Carl Lewis, Michael Jordan, Gandhi and the many other familiar figures of the world.

To know more about Hypnosis

Visit our website at

http://www.hypnae.com/

Addicted

Somebody please help me.

I'm addicted. I don't really know how to describe to you what I'm addicted to. I just feel like I can't get enough of it. I feel the urge to get a dose of it every single second. I can just feel the urge pulsating in my arteries and veins like a bullet train running through every vessel, bringing with it tremors and surges of electricity each time I don't get a dose of it. Without it, I'm useless, a frail hollow cocoon, lifeless and limp. Without it, I cannot go on.

I do know that each time i get a dose of it, it feels like a rush of blood to my head. It feels like heaven, instant euphoria, miraculous lightness. Like a truck load of gold and heavenly manna sent through the body to the brain. With every dose of my addiction, I can't help but feel happiness, relief and a sigh occasionally escape my lips. Each time i breath out I just feel all that pent up frustration going out. Each time I breath in my dosage, the magic just floods my senses, gushing in from every single orifice in my body and leaks gently out through my pores like an ice cube melting, the magic just gently seeps out my pores. The day that I get enough of this magical substance is the day I die. I dare say that I'm even willing to die for it.

Ladies and gentlemen, WE are all addicted to it. This is the only necessary addiction that we can and should never quit. I'm addicted to oxygen and the byproduct of life that comes with it. Some of us may have other addictions like drinking or smoking or other unhealthy habits. But why take up or continue with those habits when you won't die for it but rather die of it? Why not switch to an endless and limitless supply of practically free substance. Why not try my ganga of life? Take a dose, I'm sure you'll like it. Beware though, that taking in too much in one dosage will lead to hyperventilation and that can get very very ugly.

And in the event you need an outlet to stop addiction, quick, painless, non-invasive, non-medicated, with lots of oxygen, friendly and with a cupful of the personal touch, well you could always give us a call ;) .

To know more about Hypnosis

Visit our website at

http://www.hypnae.com/

The Secret of Happiness

A certain shopkeeper sent his son to learn the secrets of happiness from the wisest man in the world. The lad wondered through the desert for forty days, and finally came upon a castle, high atop a mountain. It was there that the wiseman lived.
Rather than finding a saintly man, though our hero, on entering the main room of the castle, saw a hive of activity: tradesmen came and went, people were conversing in the corners, a small orchestra was playing soft music, and there was a table covered with platters of the most delicious food in that part of the world. The wise man conversed with every one, and the boy had to wait for two hours before it was his turn to be given the man's attention.

The wise man listened attentively to the boy's explanation of why he had come, but told him that he didn't have time just then to explain the secret of happiness. He sugested that the boy look around the palace and return in two hours.

'Meanwhile, I want to ask you to do something', said the wise man, handing the boy a teaspoon that held two drops of oil. 'As you wander around, carry this spoon with you without allowing the oil to spill.'

The boy began climbing and descending the main stairways of the palace, keeping his eyes fixed on the spoon. After two hours, he returned to the room where the wise man was.

'Well,' asked the wise man, 'did you see the Persian tapestries that are hanging in my dining hall? Did you see the garden that it took the master gardener ten years to create? Did you notice the beautiful parchments in my library?'

The boy was embarrassed, and confessed that he had observed nothing. His only concern had been not to spill the oil that the wise man had entrusted to him.

'Then go back and observe the marvels of my world,' said the wise man. ' You cannot trust a man if you don;t know his house.'

'Relieved, the boy picked up the spoon and returned to his exploration of the palace, this time observing all the works of art on the ceiling and the walls. He saw the gardens, the mountains all around him, the beauty of the flowers, and the taste with which every thing had been selected. Upon returning to the wise man, he related in detail every thing he had seen.

'But where are the drops of oil I entrusted to you?' Asked the wise man.

Looking down at the spoon he held, the boy saw that the oil was gone.

'Well , there is only one piece of advice I can give you.' said the wisest of wise men. 'The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon.'

   - Adapted from Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist.

   - Photo: warm enough? I am not here to preach or to expound on the Faith of the lord or even to debunk it. I am here because I have a nagging urge to write about our Faith and hypnotherapy. What is the link? How dare I put these two realms together side by side in this article! Well behold....

Hypnosis as a definition, by the National Guild of Hypnotists, is a state of that allows the client to be highly responsive to suggestions. It is a highly relaxing state that enhances our senses and allows us to focus our attention better. It is a very natural state and in the words of my mentor Dr Casey Chua, " We do it all the time!". When we drive down the highway, when we watch a movie, when we attend a captivating talk, even when we brush our teeth or go through every day routines. The easiest sign of being under a state of hypnosis is when we have no concrete awareness of time. For example, ever felt a 2hr long movie only felt like half an hour long? or while you day dream time seems to just fly by? This phenomena is known to us hypnotists as Time Distortion.

Now that we are aware of how often we frequently enter the hypnotic states, let us shift our attention to our practice of Faith. Buddhists monks meditate on their sutras, Christians pray to the lord and give praise, Muslims perform the as-Salaah. In all these practices they share something in common. The believers all enter a state of what we call, focused attention, onto their faith. They empty their mind of thoughts temporarily to zoom in on their practice of faith. During these episodes, time seems to fly by as a bird through the window.

Even though some faiths did not agree with the practice of hypnotherapy, for example hypnosis was considered witchcraft in the past and practitioners were crucified and burnt on the cross, hypnotism was still practiced nonetheless under the guise of a different name. Hypnotism itself has been as old as civilization.

Evidence has been found of Sleep Temples originating in Ancient Greece and Egypt. Indigenous religions such as shamanism and celtic druidism practiced trance induction with similar methods such as those methods adopted by us modern day hypnotists. Now I am not promoting paganism with this article. I am trying to create an awareness of how closely connected we are with hypnosis in our every day lives.

As I have described, and if we were to reflect on our practices in our faiths, we would find many similarities between hypnosis and faith. So why would we have to fear hypnosis? Faith aims to allow us spiritual healing, gives us enlightenment. Hypnosis aims to give us mental and physical healing, giving us insight onto our body's capabilities. The two paths run almost parallel and both strive for our personal well being. In this time and age, we seek for answers with rational reasoning. If my reasoning is sound, would you take my word for hypnosis?

As I mentioned from the beginning, I am not here to promote any faith or religion or hypnosis as a faith. I am here to point out the similarities that we tend to overlook because of our biased perception on a topic that we know little about. Have faith, believe.

*For an excellent article on Christianity and hypnosis visit this website*

To know more about Hypnosis

Visit our website at

http://www.hypnae.com/

My First Time

First times are always memorable. First times give new meaning to something. First times breath freshness and renewed energy. The first time I ever got hypnotized, "reality" developed a whole new meaning.

I remembered the first time I stepped into Hypnae Center. I was looking asking about the Hypnotherapy Course then. My first impression of the center was that of awe. Never would I have imagined a hypnotherapy clinic in our sunny little Island. This realm of therapy seemed to me then to only exist in TV shows.

I partnered Dolly during the 2nd day of the course and we practiced hypnotherapy on each other. The moment she brought me under the hypnotic state, my reality distorted. My sense of smell enhanced 3 folds, I could smell the Milo powder on the table outside the room. My sense of hearing sharpened to the point where I could hear blood rushing throughout my body. My sense of touch heightened such that I could feel every waft of air that comes either from people walking by or Dolly's notes waving in the air. I felt myself sink and symbiotically merged with the chair. I then felt myself rise up into the air and stayed suspended in limbo, feeling absolutely relaxed. Strangely enough, though I had my senses all enhanced, my focus was only on Dolly's Voice. Her voice was the invisible hand that guided me through my experience. Her voice was my compass.

It felt strange then to feel so alert yet ironically so relaxed at the same time; Being so aware of the surroundings yet not pay particular attention to any stimulus. This was my first time.

Having described my first time getting hypnotized....when will it be yours?

To know more about Hypnosis

Visit our website at

http://www.hypnae.com/

I am able to do it?

Examples of naturally occurring states of hypnosis

You enter a lift. You were so engrossed in your thoughts (a different state of consciousness) that when the lift door opens, you went out, only to discover that you have not reached your desired floor.

You watch a movie and you begin to cry. You have hypnotized yourself to feel as the characters in the film feel. The movie placed you in a state of mesmerism. You got so caught up that you empathized with the characters in the film..

You were driving along a highway and you missed your chosen exit. You were engrossed (a different state of consciousness). This is commonly known as highway hypnosis.

To know more about Hypnosis

Visit our website at

http://www.hypnae.com/

I believe....

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_X1XV7h8yyn4/R91Mej6uPmI/AAAAAAAAABI/Wun0cyukpNA/s320/Charcot.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178379234467266146" />
I was told many a thing about hypnosis. I have seen many things about hypnosis. Where did I get my sources from?

In this time and age, much that we know about any subject is through the media, TV programs, newspaper articles etc. Though this form of communication does reach the masses and allow fast and widespread of information, it is a double edged sword. Accurate information could be passed as easily as inaccurate information.

What we have known about many controversial issues to this date is still obscured e.g. is Flouride really good for you? What about artificial sugar, does it really help make us healthier? Lets even talk about the merits of Panadol? But not here we would not discuss all these.

Hypnosis. What do we really know about it. Personally, I used to think that hypnosis is just a show, a mockery of the malleability of the lay mind to believe what he sees. In truth, it is beyond any movie or TV show. It has performed over time but underplayed by the media. It has been used by medical institutions but under-credited over the ages ( it was recognized since 1892 by the British Medical Association)

Be not kept in the dark about controversies. Enquire and be enriched with a more wholesome perspective.

To know more about Hypnosis

Visit our website at

http://www.hypnae.com/

Definition of hypnosis

First of all, allow me to define the word Hypnotherapy,

The word Hypno comes from a greek word Hypnos. It is related to the Greek God Hypnos, which means the God of Sleep.

However, hypnosis is not sleep. For lack of a better word, the word sleep is used as a short hand to mean go deeper into relaxation. Therapy means to move someone into health and wholeness. Thus Hypnotherapy means to move someone into health and wholeness using hypnosis.

Hypnosis is the bypass of the critical factor and the establishment of acceptable selective thinking (The United States Government, Department of Education, Human Services Division).

During normal consciousness, our critical factor decides what type of information goes into the subconscious mind. It's function is to protect the existing data in the subconscious mind, eventhough the data may be erroneous. Any data that does not match the existing data is rejected by the conscious mind. Hypnosis allows new information to be accepted by the subconscious mind as it bypass the critical factor.

The establishment of acceptable selective thinking refers to the client following instructions during the hypnotic induction.

To know more about Hypnosis

Visit our website at

http://www.hypnae.com/

What is Hypnosis ?

What then is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of consciousness one enters and leaves naturally all the time during your day-to day experiences. It feels very much like day dreaming i.e., the state between sleeping and waking.

In this state of relaxation you are more open to suggestions. In this state (also called theta) your brain wave vibration rate slows down, giving you access to your subconscious mind. While your conscious mind is still completely aware of what is going on the whole time. In this relaxed state of mind, your subconscious mind has the ability to accept information given to it by the hypnotherapist.

Hypnosis is a valuable tool for self-empowerment and continuous personal growth. Hypnosis is a state of heightened suggestibility. We are all influenced by suggestions. Hypnosis uses this natural human process to change negative patterns into positive patterns of behavior. There is nothing mysterious about hypnosis.

There are five components necessary to induce hypnosis.

      ● Motivation - You must want to be hypnotised

      ● Relaxation - Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation.

● Concentration - You will use your ability to concentrate.

● Imagination - You will use your vivid imagination.

● Suggestion - You will hear and respond to suggestions.

Its application is based solely on the relationship between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind, having no power to reason, accepts and acts upon any fact or suggestion given to it by the conscious mind. However, you will not accept suggestions that contradicts with your conscious mind and thoughts because you are always in control while in hypnosis.

As long as there have been human beings, there has been hypnosis. We use this commonly occurring, and natural state of mind, unknowingly, all the time. It is just natural for us. For example, if you have ever watched a television program or a movie and became really absorbed into the program, you were probably in a trance.

Advertisers understand this. They use television programs to induce a hypnotic trance and then provide you hypnotic suggestions, called commercials!

Everyone has already experienced hypnosis, by accident or intentionally.

Another common example of this naturally occurring state of mind is when you are driving down the road, with your mind focused on some other task (a day dream perhaps), and next thing you know, you have passed your next turn.

So now you know you can be hypnotized.
You have done it literally thousands of times. You did it yourself when you were daydreaming and missed that turn, you have been hypnotized when you enjoyed a television program, and you have followed hypnotic and post-hypnotic suggestions when you preferred some brand name that you saw repeatedly on television.

How does hypnosis works?
The hypnotic state is an optimum state for making changes in your life. During hypnosis you can set aside limiting beliefs that may have been preventing you from moving toward a more healthy, and happier you.

In order for you to understand how hypnosis works, it is very important for you to understand the relationship between your conscious mind and your subconscious mind.

(i) The Conscious Mind
The conscious mind, which accounts for 10% of our mind, is working right now as you are reading this. It is that part of you that is aware of what is going on right now. Choices and decisions are made by the conscious mind.

The conscious mind is logical and analytical and it is where we spend most of our time. It basically performs four functions which will be discussed at a separate forum. The conscious mind analyzes and is a problem-solver by evaluating whatever concern, situation or issue has its attention

The conscious mind makes decisions that we often think are automatic, but in reality, engage a part of our conscious mind. The conscious mind exercises what we call will power. Will Power seldom lasts, does it? You mean well, but conscious intent fails and the old behavior reoccurs. The conscious mind also is the place of working memory. It is the memory we use every day to function.

Where we all live, however, is in the level below this level of awareness, the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind accounts for the other 90%. Conscious decisions are influenced by the data stored in our subconscious mind.

(ii) The Subconscious Mind
The subconscious mind, which accounts for 90% of our mind, can be compared to a computer in that it stores the data for all the experiences we have ever had. One of the most important functions of the subconscious mind is that it automatically controls our bodily functions; breathing, heart beating, eyes blinking, the immune system and organs, muscles, bones and tissues from the cellular level to its inter-relatedness as a whole body functioning.

The subconscious mind is creative, intuitive, irrational, and emotional. Being irrational it can work for you or against you. Because it's illogical it can make you into anything you want to be, i.e., rich, famous, slender, happy. It can also keep you stuck in negative behavior. It contains your values, your core beliefs about your self, every thought you have ever had, every word that has ever been said to you, every experience you have ever had.

Just like a computer operates only on its programming, so does your subconscious mind. Also like a computer, your subconscious mind can be reprogrammed. We are constantly reprogramming our subconscious mind through our experiences and self-talk. If our internal dialogue is saying we are fat, a smoker, a success, a failure; then that is what we become.

This programming has been placed in there from many sources and it must operate on this programming.

How do we get suggestions into the subconscious mind? Bypassing the "Critical Factor"
There is a part of the conscious mind called the critical factor. It's kind of like a guard at the gateway between the conscious mind and the subconscious Mind. It has the power to accept or reject suggestions from entering the subconscious mind. It has very good intentions. Its job is to protect us. Because change is viewed as a threat to our nervous system, any suggestion that does not match the existing programming automatically gets rejected. That is how it accomplishes its goal of protecting us.

The only way a real change can take place is to get the new programming into our subconscious mind. The only way to get to the subconscious mind bypass the critical factor, is through our memories, habits, and emotions. Memories are only created through experience and you may need many positive experiences to diminish the effects the negative experience. This could take a long time to create.

Habits require will power and time in order to become habits. Emotions either happen randomly or require changing the way you think about a situation and that can be enormously difficult to do and also takes time. There is another much easier way to bypass the critical factor, and that is through hypnosis. Through the induction of relaxation, the critical factor goes to sleep for awhile. The conscious mind stays awake, and can still make decisions. But now you're in control while your subconscious is receptive to any suggestion that your conscious mind wants to let in.

How does Hypnosis make you feel?
Since everyone has experienced light levels of hypnosis at different times, don't be surprised if you don't feel hypnotized.
